Der Band erfasst die 299 ältesten Handschriften der Stiftsbibliothek Melk, entstanden vom 9. Jh. bis um etwa 1400. Es ist dies mehr als ein Viertel der 1151 mittelalterlichen Codices dieser Bibliothek, die eine der größten österreichischen Handschriftensammlungen in kirchlichem Besitz beherbergt. Das Hauptaugenmerk der Beschreibungen liegt auf der inhaltlichen Erschließung der Dokumente. Eine beiliegende Foto-CD bietet rund 1000 Schriftbeispiele.

This volume comprises the 299 oldest manuscripts of the Melk Monastery Library, created between the 9th century and roughly 1400. These represent more than a quarter of the 1151 medieval codices in this library, home to one of the largest Austrian manuscript collections in church hands. The main focus of the descriptions is on the presentation of the contents of the documents. The volume is accompanied by a photo-CD containing almost 1000 text examples.
