Ten years of the Oxapampa - Asháninka
- Yánesha biosphere reserve (BIOAY):
testimonies, reflections and achievements is
a compilation to commemorate the tenth
anniversary of its international designation
as biosphere reserve by UNESCO -
International Coordinating Council of the
Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
The book comprises six sections -
Background, Management and governance
mechanisms, Research papers, Conservation
and sustainability, Testimonies and
experiences, Stories and poems - written by
about 60 authors and co-authors related
to the biosphere reserve. The publication
traces the steps prior to the creation of
the biosphere reserve and outlines the
sequence of events that led to the reserve’s
implementation. Furthermore, it addresses
the series of tools and mechanisms developed
to ensure fulfilment of its functions and its
sustainable development goals. The book
presents essays based on doctoral and
master theses carried out in the region.
In addition, testimonies and experiences
of work methodologies are revealed, as
well as initiatives for the conservation
and sustainable use of resources, actions
for resource management, reports on
local enterprises, and accounts from
representative residents. The testimonies
and experiences include discourses about
the opportunities that the biosphere
reserve recognition offers to its inhabitants.
Moreover, the book provides diverse
statements and opinions in Voices from the
Biosphere Reserve. Through these voices the
aim is to hear people’s thoughts about the
BIOAY.
A main highlight is the large collection
of high quality images of the beautiful
Oxapampa; the images show the cultural
and biological diversity available in the
BIOAY. The book concludes with texts in the
Tyrolean Pozucino, Quechua, Asháninka and
Yánesha languages. The texts are a collection
of forms of expression from people living in
the reserve who wish to share their culture
through texts specially written for the
publication.

Diez años de la reserva de biosfera Oxapampa
– Asháninka – Yánesha (BIOAY): testimonios,
reflexiones y logros es una compilación
de material que conmemora el décimo
aniversario del reconocimiento internacional
como reserva de biosfera por UNESCO -
Consejo Internacional de Coordinación del
Programa sobre el Hombre y la Biosfera
(MAB-UNESCO).
El libro consta de seis secciones -
Antecedentes, Mecanismos de gestión y
gobernanza, Trabajos de investigación,
Conservación y sostenibilidad, Testimonios y
experiencias, Cuentos y poemas – reuniendo
alrededor de 60 autores y coautores
relacionados con la reserva de biosfera.
La publicación traza un recorrido por los
pasos previos a la creación de la reserva de
biosfera y esboza la secuencia de eventos
que se gestaron para constituir las bases
del establecimiento de la BIOAY. Además,
aborda los mecanismos y herramientas
implementados en la gestión de la reserva
para asegurar el cumplimiento de sus
funciones y de sus objetivos de desarrollo
sostenible. También, reúne importantes
ensayos en base a trabajos de doctorado y
maestrías que se desarrollaron en la región.
Adicionalmente, se exponen testimonios
y experiencias sobre metodologías de
trabajo, iniciativas para la conservación y
uso sostenible de los recursos, así como
declaraciones de pobladores. Los testimonios
y experiencias presentan discursos sobre las
oportunidades que el reconocimiento como
reserva de biosfera ofrece a sus habitantes.
Entre las secciones se encuentra Voces de la
reserva de biosfera, declaraciones emitidas
por algunos pobladores de la región,
mediante las cuales se escucha cómo el
poblador siente y se relaciona con la BIOAY.
Destaca principalmente la amplia colección
de imágenes de la hermosa Oxapampa, que
muestran parte de la diversidad cultural y
biológica de esta rica reserva de biosfera.
El libro culmina con textos en lengua
pozucino-tirolesa, quechua, asháninka y
yánesha, recogiendo así formas de expresión
de las personas originarias de la reserva
que desean compartir su cultura a través
de textos especialmente escritos para la
publicación.
