What can one find on the ONLINE server?

Electronic Lexicons, eBooks and eJournals of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Press. All publications have been submitted to the Section for the Humanities and the Social Sciences or the Section for Mathematics and the Natural Sciences of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and have been scientifically evaluated and endorsed.

Why doesn't the server accept my password?

Please be sure to observe upper and lower-case letters when entering your password. If you have forgotten your password, go to the item "Have you forgotten your password?" on the server.

The server is optimized for the web browsers Internet Explorer from Version 5.0 and Netscape from Version 6.1.

How does the search work?

The "Search" function searches for the full text in the entire server. The order of results is based on their relevance. In "Lexicon Search" only the Music Lexicon is examined and in the "Bibliographic Search", eBooks and brochures are looked through according to bibliographic criteria.

Are the ONLINE editions the same as the printed editions?

EBooks und eJournals are the same; the online editions of the lexicons are more comprehensive and are kept up to date.

What types of metadata export do you support?

Blurb pages contain metadata about the contents of electronic publications (usually PDF-files). Blurb pages on hw.oeaw.ac.at support export of a publication's metadata for reference managing software such as EndNote, Citavi, Zotero for Firefox ("RIS"), JabRef or LaTeX ("BibTeX"), or EndNote-Web ("ENW").
"COinS" (ContextObject in SPAN) allows metadata to be embedded in HTML pages using OpenURL so that metadata for books or articles can be processed by software like Mendeley or can be read by social media like researchgate.net.

QR codes ("Quick Response") are 2-dimensional matrix codes that can be decoded by some smartphone's applications. Mostly QR codes contain web addresses.
On hw.oeaw.ac.at resolving URLs for DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) are translated into so-called Permanent QR-Codes. DOIs are set for journals as well as for individual articles, so a click on "QR-Code" shows two Permanent QR codes (one for the journal, one for the article).

What do those symbols next to the term "Share" mean?

Next to the term "Share" there are several symbols containing hyperlinks to social media platforms:

Connotea, del.icio.us, Bibsonomy and CiteULike are "social bookmarking" services. To save a bookmark on one of those platforms a user account is needed.

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Xing are "social media". Users can publish their status, which can be followed by other users on the same (or sometimes on a connected) platform. For example, researchgate.net can be connected to LinkedIn and so the status set on LinkedIn can automatically be transferred to user's status on Researchgate.
