The final volume of the edition contains the last year of his life up to the entry dated 19.10.1931, 2 days before he died. The last National Theatre performance ( “Der Gang zum Weiher” ), the last book published by S. Fischer ( “Flucht in die Finsternis” ). The fascination with sound films and radio. The integrated complete registers cover all 10 volumes of the diary, which spans over 50 years.
An Appendix presents the fragment of an adolescent diary found amongst the author’s papers after his death. These records contain Schnitzler’s first poem, and their last sentence closes the circle to the first sentence of the edited text.
