Der vorliegende Band enthält im ersten Abschnitt das 1955 von Labib Habachi erstellte Originalmanuskript über seine Grabungs- und Dokumentationstätigkeit im Bereich von Tell el-Dab‘a and Qantir. Aufgrund der Ergebnisse der 1966 begonnenen Untersuchungen des Österreichischen Archäologischen Instituts entstand eine Neubearbeitung des Manuskriptes, das durch die Dokumentation und Bearbeitung zahlreicher Objekte aus Tell el-Dab‘a and Qantir, die bisher kaum oder gar nicht publiziert waren und großteils im Museum von Kairo verwahrt werden, wesentlich erweitert und ergänzt wurde. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit enthält die gründliche Auseinandersetzung mit den archäologischen Befunden sowie den sichergestellten Funden. Der dritte Teil des Buches besteht aus einem ausführlichen Katalog all jener im Raum Tell el-Dab‘a and Qantir gefundenen Objekte, die Habachi seinem Werk als Ausgangsbasis seiner Rekonstruktionen zugrunde gelegt hatte. Eine wertvolle Bereicherung der Dokumentation stellt das heute im Chicago House in Luxor verwahrte umfangreiche Fotoarchiv Habachis dar, das für die vorliegende Publikation in großzügiger Weise genutzt werden konnte.

The first part of this volume presents Labib Habachi's original manuscript, completed in 1955, which gives an account of his work and studies on the area of Tell el-Dab‘a and Qantir in the north-eastern part of the delta. In the light of the results from the excavations carried out by the Austrian Archaeological Institute at Tell el-Dab’a from 1966 Habachi started to revise his manuscript for publication in 1983, an endeavour that was cut short by the author's death the following year. The book presented here is an enlarged and extended version that includes many objects and archaeological finds mainly stored in the Museum at Cairo which have so far either been poorly documented or never published. The second part of the volume provides a detailed treatment and assessment of these archaeological finds and objects in order to put them in their proper place with regard to the history of the area.

The third part contains a catalogue of all the objects used by Habachi for his studies and reconstructions. Meticulous descriptions, drawings and photographs demonstrate the richness and quality of the material and reveal the importance of this site during the course of history. The publication is enhanced by a large number of Habachi’s original photographs.
