Das 17. Symposion der Internationalen Gesellschaft für griechische und hellenistische Rechtsgeschichte fand vom 25.–30. August 2009 auf Schloss Seggau, Steiermark, statt. Es wurden 18 Vorträge gehalten, deren Diskussion zumeist ein Respondent eröffnete. Die 32 Beiträge sind in diesem Band zusammengefasst: archaisches kretisches Recht, Recht des klassischen Athen, epigraphische Zeugnisse aus weiteren Poleis der hellenistischen und römischen Zeit, juristische Papyri; Vergleich mit keilschriftlichen Rechtsurkunden. Das Symposion pflegt das Zusammenwirken der rechtswissenschaftlichen mit den altertumswissenschaftlichen Disziplinen und lässt den Vortragenden freie Hand bei der Wahl ihrer Themen aus ihren aktuellen Arbeitsgebieten.

The 17th Symposion of the International Society for Greek and Hellenistic Legal History took place at the Styrian Seggau Castle in Austria. 18 papers were presented, and respondents opened the discussion about nearly all of them. The overall 32 contributions are collected in this volume: archaic Cretan law, law of classical Athens, epigraphic evidence from other poleis of Hellenistic and Roman times, and legal papyri; parallels to cuneiform legal documents. The Symposion supports the cooperation of legal historians with those studying all aspects of Classical Antiquity allowing the participants a free choice of topics from their current areas of research.
