Abstract

The article analyses the significance of Musil’s aesthetic concepts for the development of innovative narrative strategies. It can be pointed out to what extent Musil even comes to anticipate topical literary theories based on cultural anthropology; in coming to terms with the main tendencies of contemporary literature he embraces avant-gardist attitudes, which are equally reflected in his opinions on rural and décadence writing as well as on naturalism, impressionism, expressionism and futurism.
