Abstract

After three years of video data migration at the Phonogrammarchiv it can be said that this challenging project is on its way and is delivering satisfying results. However, we faced a few technical or operational problems of particular interest to institutions performing similar migration tasks. All problems were either related to aging or obsolete hard- and software, or to workflow issues in connection with the modification of the archiving procedure at the initial stage of video archiving. Specifically, the migration process uncovered a few software peculiarities or even bugs, undetected or not obvious during the archiving tasks. Workflow issues could be satisfactorily addressed in cooperation with archivists to clean up mistakes caused by erroneous, misleading or missing data.
