Abstract

This article is dedicated to the process of invention of sacrality and its functions in the context of the new spirituality/new religious movements in Bulgaria. It examines two sacred places related to two spiritual movements from modernity/postmodernity – the Seven Rila Lakes, honored by the White Brotherhood, and the rocks of Belogradchik important to the movement of Unified Teaching. The paper analyzes the pilgrimage related to them in the context of sacred places and invented religions, attempting to present their functions for the construction and life of the spiritual communities.
