Abstract

In this paper, the magnetic tape collection of Austrian Turkologist Andreas Tietze (1914–2003) will be introduced. In 2016, the collection was given to the Phonogrammarchiv for the purpose of itemising, archiving and analysing its contents, which include, among other things, the voice recordings of leading Turkish poets and authors of the republican era in the 20th century, such as Nazım Hikmet, Edip Cansever, Turgut Uyar, Yaşar Kemal, Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, Melih Cevdet Anday, Aziz Nesin, Çetin Altan, etc. There are thus three primary aims of this paper: (1.) to point out the link between the magnetic tape collection and the life of Andreas Tietze; (2.) to introduce and catalogue the Tietze Collection; and (3.) to evaluate the collection in terms of its uniqueness.

Keywords: Andreas Tietze, magnetic tape collection, Turkish poets and authors, Turkish voice recordings
