Abstract

The festive event at the occasion of Axel Borsdorfs valediction was devoted to the topic: Understanding the world – a geographical challenge. The guest speaker took up this topic and confronted the geographical view at the world with the current perspectives of a virtual world. They abstract from specific human experiences with the world and draw up space- and timeless standard solutions that nowhere suit, being actually promises of salvation that question humanity of human beings. In contrast, the author sketches key ideas of an integrative geography focusing at humankind as a day-by-day actor in an unavailable world.
