Abstract

The late antique burgus of Wallsee was excavated in the years 2011–2017. It was built under Valentinian I (364–375) when he fortified the Limes, and seems to have been abandoned after a fire disaster in the sec- ond half of the 5 th century. Spolia were also used as building materials, the most prominent of which are an altar for Iupiter Dolichenus and the tombstone of a family from the municipality of Ovilavis including a portrait of a couple. The new finds are presented and analysed here, together with the already known funeral and sacral monuments from Wallsee.
