Abstract

The paper outlines Fritz Brupbacher’s (1874–1945) concept of the relationship between health and sexuality. The Swiss physician was not only one of the foremost sexual enlighteners and reformers of the early 20th century, but also an important political advocate of the working class. The essay also discusses his struggle for the individual’s liberty and against the punishment of abortion in the context of similar statements by contemporary German and Austrian socialist physicians with whom Brupbacher was personally and institutionally connected.
