Abstract

The present article corrects the reading of the Celtic name used for invoking an either Roman or indige- nous smith-god on two altars from Styria re-edited by de Bernardo Stempel and Hainzmann in the “Carnun- tum Jahrbuch” 2018. The devoicing of the dental stop in word-initial position seems to point to the Germanic-speaking milieu of the dedicants or dedi- cant involved, a plausible hypothesis on account of the various Germanic elements detectable in Norican personal names.
