During excavations, fragments have repeatedly been unearthed which, on closer inspection, can be made up into clay towers. Such items have also been found at various excavation sites within Carnuntum. The precise function, the exact appearance and the specif- ic use of these specimens have yet to be unequivocally scientifically identified, but use atop roofs, whether as chimneys or as decorative elements, is a possibility which should be considered. This conclusion is sug- gested by individual fragments to which remnants of roofing tiles are attached.
