Abstract

This essay deals with the far-reaching claims of alternative medicine and how they appear to benefit from pandemics. To make this clear, the current debate, as expressed in a popular book by Clemens G. Arvay, is compared to a paper by the water doctor and natural healer Theodor Hahn (1824–1883), which he wrote on the occasion of the cholera outbreak in Schwerin in 1849.
