In recent decades the History of Anatomy in Vienna gained attention by research done on the Pernkopf Atlas, the structures supporting anatomical teaching, the formation of this discipline in the beginning of the 18th century and especially in the period from the second half of the 19th century to the midst of the 20th century. In my project I want to focus on the latter period following the questions: What was “anatomy” like in Vienna from the midst of the 19th to the midst of the 20th century? What are we really talking about if we perceive “anatomy” as a university subject? In this short project report the need for a history of anatomical teaching in this period is outlined and a short glimpse is given on my project, which is only in its formation process and which my dissertation will be based on. It shall retrace the history of anatomical teaching at the Viennese Faculty of Medicine from 1845 to 1945.
