Abstract

Ca. 274 vessels of Raetian Ware, coming from excavations of the civilian town of Carnuntum and its suburbium as well as from the Collection of the Lower Austrian State Department, were examined and classified in two major groups based on their (presumed) provenance: Group I.1–8 – of Raetian origin, Group II.1–6 – of Pannonian origin. The Raetian group I mostly consists of products from pottery workshops situated in the Westraetian region like Faimingen, Aschberg and Günzburg. In the Pannonian group, the majority of the materials are apparently products from Savarian workshop/s (Group II.1). For 25 fragments, mineralogical and/or X-ray fluorescence analyses were carried out by Roman Sauer and Małgorzata Daszkiewicz with Gerwulf Schneider.
