Abstract

For a brief period in the late 21st century BCE, rulers of the Third Dynasty of Ur and eastern kingdoms such as Elam, Shimashki and Marhashi appeared to work together to foster peaceful relations and trade. Messengers, diplomats, certain royal princes and complex networks of dynastic intermarriage each had a role in maintaining the shaky peace.
