Abstract

This paper collects and examines texts which provide information on how the Hittite kings used emotions for the control of their subjects. The terms occurring more often are kartimmiya- „to get / be angry“ and nahsaratt- „fear; reverence“, both with derivations and synonyms. But there are also passages where emotions are not expressed, though we can be sure that they played a role for the mentioned reactions of the involved king.
