COMMUNICATING INNOVATION

The Austrian Academy of Sciences Press was founded in January 1973 in order to publish the latest research findings of a high quality level and to distribute them nationally and internationally, thus providing Austrian science with a suitable publication platform.

At present, academics from 22 countries are now writing for other academics and for the ever-increasing group of persons interested in scholarly discussion. The quality of these publications is guaranteed by an expert Publications Advisory Board.

The research activity of the Austrian Academy of Sciences allows the Press to publish works in a wide range of humanities and natural sciences as well as in the social sciences and jurisprudence.

In recent years, international attention was drawn in particular to titles such as Helmut Birkhans "Kelten", "Der römische Limes in Österreich" by Friesinger and Krinzinger, the publication of Arthur Schnitzler's diaries, David Jackson's "A history of Tibetan painting" and Hans-Georg Koppensteiner's studies on Austrian and European private commercial law.

The Press currently produces books, journals, CD-ROMs and audio CDs; intensive work is currently being carried out on the launch of the sale of online media.

The nine employees of the Press handle not only the roughly 70 new publications each year but also a back-list of over 3000 available titles.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences Press exports 70% of its production to a total of 42 countries around the world. In recent years the Press has succeeded in significantly extending distribution and thus consolidating the enterprise's international presence.
