Schwerpunkt: Gesellschaft und Psychiatrie in Österreich 1945 bis ca. 1970
After the end of the Nazi-barbarism, Hubert Urban (1904–1997) showed initiative and actively tried to reorganize psychiatry by following pioneering impulses for the development of apsychosocial treatment that gives consideration to the entire human being. His visions of the future of psychiatry and neurology influenced a whole generation of psychiatrists and neurologists far beyond the borders of Tyrol. Several of his members of staff achieved international recognition. Due to his personality structure respectively his display of behavioural disorders, his innovations were not permanently accepted. The suspension of Prof Urban in 1958 ended a period in psychiatric history that was characterised not only by pioneer spirit but also by various problems.
